Odd-numbered steps
Families arrange dolls on 3, 5, 7, or 9 tiers: gods and goddesses, chettiar market scenes, wedding sets, modern tableaux, and Kalasha at the heart. Visiting neighbors, singing, and offering sundal keeps the social fabric festive.
Why it matters
Golu teaches children stories by sight. It honors creativity as seva and makes hospitality part of Devi worship. On Vijayadashami, dolls are lovingly put away until next year.
