Kali, Lakshmi and Saraswati: The Three Stages of Navaratri

Alongside the Navadurga day list, many families read Navaratri as three stages of inner work — destruction of limiting patterns, cultivation of auspicious qualities, and awakening of wisdom — sealed by victory on day ten.

Days 1–3: Durga / Kali

The opening nights emphasize strength and clearing. Devotees pray for courage to face fear and remove what obstructs growth.

Days 4–6: Lakshmi

The middle triad turns toward nourishment: harmony at home, honest prosperity, and grateful abundance.

Days 7–9: Saraswati

The final nights honor learning, arts, and clarity — preparing for Saraswati Puja, book worship, and Vidyarambham in many regions.

Day 10: Vijayadashami

Victory and fresh beginnings. Traditions and exact day-divisions differ among sampradayas; treat this map as a widely loved reading, not the only one.

Compare with the Navadurga series starting at Shailaputri, and read Devi Mahatmya for scriptural roots.
