Vikramshila - Ancient university of india

Vikramshila is also one of the oldest universities in India. It provided higher education to the people in ancient Bharat. The university was established in the eighth to the ninth century, in Bihar's Bhagalpur district.

It was inaugurated by the king of the Pala dynasty, Dharmapala. The reason for starting this university is that there was a reduction in opportunities for scholarships at Nalanda university.

The majority of insights that there is in records today are from Tibetan sources like Taranatha, a Tibetan monk of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Vikramshila is one of the most important destinations for followers of Buddhism. As it is one of the vastest universities of Buddhists. The university harbored more than thousands of students and hundreds of educators.

Many Buddhist scholars hailed from this university of ancient India. They have contributed significantly to the lineage, learnings, and traditions of Buddhism. People like Atisha Dipankara, who founded the Sarma rituals are examples of the same. Sarma rituals are a part of Tibetan Buddhism.

Some of the important subjects taught here are philosophy, grammar, Indian reasoning, and metaphysics.

Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji caused a lot of destruction in the year 1193. This caused the end of Vikramshila.
