Pushpagiri - Ancient university of india

Pushpagiri is located in Odisha's Jajpur district. It is a historical Buddhist monastic site of ancient India. 

Although philosophers such as Dineshchandra sircar and B.S.L Hanumantha Rao recognize the Pushpagiri  University with the current Pushpagiri temple complex in the place called Cuddapah District of Andhra Pradesh.

This center of learning prospered in a period of the third to the eleventh century, CE. When examined, a lot of stupas, statues, remains, and sculptures were found here in the 1990s.

Just like many other ancient universities, Xuanzang the Chinese traveler and monk discovered this university too. He described this place as an important Buddhist site.

People believe that Lalitgiri and Udaygiri together formed Pushpagiri. Some evidence like a mandapa stone emphasized that the university originated in the 3rd century. 

As cavities have taken place in the property, people like B.N Mukherjee and Debraj Pradhan believe that Ashoka erected these stupas and structures in the Mauryan dynasty.

In current times, the ancient university of Bharat has become an important tourist attraction. Buddhist Jakarta regularly visits the place. The government is encouraging tourism here by facilitating amenities like roads, good communication, and many more.
