Odantapuri - Ancient university of india

Odantapuri University was the second oldest university after Nalanda University. In the 8th century, Gopala of the Pala dynasty founded the Odantapuri University. The ruins of the ancient university were located on Hiranya Parbat in Bihar Sharif. This place is also known as Odantapura Vihar or Odantapuri Buddiest Mahavira. 

The main motive of establishing the Odantapuri University was to spread Buddhist learning and teaching. According to the records in Tibetan books, there were 12000 students in the University. Acharya Sri Ganga was a popular alumnus of the University. 

Being a great Buddhist learning center, it existed for around 4 centuries. Bhaktiyar Khilji destroyed this university by assuming it as a fortress.
