What is Vedic Astrology?

Ancient Indian astrology is popularly referred to as Vedic astrology and it is originated in the part of Atharva Veda in the form of Mahopanishad or Jyotishmati.   But there is no mentioning of astrology in the book of Vedas and it is Vedangas.   Vedangas is a branch of Vedas and it is six in number.   Vedic astrology is the traditional astrology of the ancient Vedic civilization of India and it is more popularly known as Jyotish which means " Science of Light".   It is the part of Vedas and it said to be the "Eyes of the Vedas".   Jyotish is built up with Ganitha and Phalitha that means astronomy and astrology and it addresses different aspects of human life which include physical,  emotional,  spiritual, and mental.   

According to Vedic astrology,  there are 27+1 constellations made up of 12 zodiac signs,  9 planets, and 12 houses.   It uses sidereal astronomical calculations for calculating planetary positions at the time of the person's birth.   The Vedic astrology recognizes nine heavenly bodies as planets such as sun,  moon,  Mars,  Mercury,  Jupiter,  Venus,  Saturn,  Rahu, and Ketu.   Vedic Astrology encircled everything ranging from psychology,  healing,  prediction,  religion, and spirituality.
