Panguni Month

According to the Hindu custom, Panguni month is considered as the last month of Tamil calendar. It falls on Uttara-Phalguni in the month of Panguni. The main significance of Panguni month is the full moon day coincides with the day of Uttara Phalguni in the 12th month Phalgun. This day teaches the significance of relationships in our lives. Panguni month indicates the sign from God that marriages are a sacred bond between a man and a woman. According to Hindu mythology, Rama and Sita were married on Panguni Uthiram. Panguni is known as "Deiva thirumana madham". On the day of Panguni month, most of the temples are celebrating Varshikotsav and Brahmotsavam. Most of the temples in South India are celebrating Panguni Uthiram as a famous festival. Hindu belief is that this month is considered auspicious, divine and powerful. Because on this day, all problems relating to married relationships will be solved by visiting the temple on this day. To fulfil their oath, Lord Murugan devotees carry Kavadi in all Murugan temples this month. On that same day, Lord Murugan married Deivanai. During that day, devotees practise fasting which results in prosperity, happiness and removal of obstacles in life. This day is auspicious for the devotees of Lord Ayyappa due to the incarnation of Lord Ayyappa. Two planets such as Sun and Moon are influenced by Panguni Uthiram. The important thing at this time is a prayer to divine couples for good and better relationships. On that day, devotees pierce their bodies as part of their devotion. Some of the devotees carry Kavadi and also carry pots of holy water or milk.
