According to Hindu Lunar Calendar, Paksha is divided into periods of two weeks such as Krishna Paksha or Vadhya Paksha and Shukla Paksha or Gaura Paksha. Krishna Paksha or Vadhya Paksha is when the moon is rotating around the earth, then light from the Sun is diminishing while Sun came near to the earth and it causes fading moon or waxing moon. Krishna paksha ends with New moon or Amavasi. But Shukla Paksha or Gaura Paksha is about waxing moon describes that when the moon is rotating around the earth then the sun goes longer causes and light from the sun is reflecting on earth and brightening moon. 15 days comes in between Pournami and Amavasi. Each of the month has 30 tithis. They are Padyami, Vidiya, Tadiya, Chavithi, Panchami, Sashti, Ashtami, Navami, Dasimi, Ekadasi, Dwadasi, Triodasi and Chaturdasi. One month includes two pakshas. Each of the pakshas includes 15 days. There are two mythological stories behind Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. Krishna Paksha started from the story of Moon. Sage Daksha, son of Lord Brahma has 27 daughters and these 27 daughters are stars combined to form constellations. They are Ashvini, Bharani, Krttika, Rohini, Mrigasshira, Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha, Magha, Purvaphalguni, Uttaraphalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Svati, Vishaka, Anuradha, Jyeshta, Mula, Purvashadha, Uttarashara, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Purvabhadrapada, Uttarabhadrapada and Revati. It includes only one male constellation named Abhijeet. Moon married these 27 daughters. But unfortunately, Chandra has only sincere love with Rohini. Then the rest of his wives complained to Daksha about Chandra's behave and performance as a husband. After Daksha heard about that and he decided to scold Chandra. But that too had fruitless and Chandra didn't move from Rohini. In the end, Daksha cursed Chandra for tuberculosis. The energy of the Sun and moon decreased due to tuberculosis and from that Krishna Paksha started. There is also a story behind Shukla Paksha, When the Moon came nearby tuberculosis and Chandra asked the help of Lord Brahma. But Indra and Brahma asked Chandra to pray Lord Shiva. After worshipping Lord Shiva and he gave some changes in that curse. Lord Shiva gave Chandra a position in his Jata. While doing this, Chandra's glory reappeared again. Shukla Paksha started from that. Chandra turned to Shukla Paksha and Krishna paksha on every 15 days. Daksha formed Krishna paksha and Shiva formed Shukla paksha.
