Nalanda - Ancient university of india
Buddhist university is the other name of Nalanda University. It is one of the most ancient universities in India which dates back to the 5th century.
Nalanda University is located in the current Bihar, which was the Magadha Kingdom at that time. It started in the fifth century and it later discontinued in the thirteenth century.
The primary language of the University was Pali. Besides, this center of education is also popularly known as an esteemed Buddhist Monastery or Mahavihara.
Nalanda used to be a flourishing village near the city of Rajgir ( the capital of Magadha). People believe that Gautam Buddha has given orations in the Nalanda University. He delivered the lectures in a nearby mango Grove (Pavarika).
The archeologists state that the university commenced in the fifth century. The reason behind it is the alliance of its history with Mahavira and Buddha. The history of Nalanda in the centuries is not very clear and solid. Although the Tibetan Lama (of the 17th century) associates the place with many emperors like Buddhists and Mauryan.
He also states that Ashoka created an enormous temple here. The beginning period of the Nalanda University is believed to be the Gupta Dynasty and the monarch Shakraditya as its originator.
The Chinese traveler Xuazang has given many useful insights into the ancient university. Since he stayed in the monastery for a total of two years. Moksha Deva was the Indian name of Xuanzang.
The place has gained a lot of prominence and status as it was one of the biggest powers of the fourth century. Now the University is a center of research and learning of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Nalanda University receives a lot of tourism not just nationally but also globally. Buddhist disciples visit the place as an important center of Buddhism.
