Magh Month significance
According to the Hindu religious system, Magh is regarded as the eleventh month in the Shaka era. Based on the Lunar calendar, Magha month begins with a new moon day or full moon day, but in the Solar calendar, it starts from the arrival of the sun to the sign Magh month is considered as very auspicious for celebrating some of the Hindu festivals. They are Vasant Panchami, Ratha Saptami, Bhishma Ashtami, Sri Madhwa Navami, Maha Shivaratri, Bhishma Ekadasi, Navratri and Makar Sankranti. Yet, Magh month is the best day to conduct marriages, sacred thread ceremony, house warming etc. Magh month festivals are representing different Gods with different rituals. Vasant Panchami is celebrating as the birthday of Goddess Saraswati and also devotees are worshipping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Mahalakshmi on that day. Devotees are worshipping Sun God Surya on Ratha Saptami day. Bhishma Ashtami is celebrating the last days of Bhishma Pitamaha. As a famous philosopher, Sri Madhwacharya disappeared from his students and Madhwa Navami is celebrating as the remembrance of Madhwacharya. On the day of Maha Shivaratri, devotees are worshipping Lord Shiva. Bhishma Ekadasi is celebrating as describing Vishnu Sahasranama to Pandavas by Sri Bhishmacharya. Magh month Navaratri is celebrating for devoting various forms of Goddess Shakti and devotees are worshipping God Sun on Makar Sankranti day. During Magh month, an important practice that needs to be performed is taking a holy bath before Arnodaya, taking holy bath in Ganga is best, but that doesn't necessarily. There is a meaning behind Magh snanam in the early morning. At the time of Magh month, the climate will be cold and the body will be frail due to the shortage of sunshine to the earth.
