How to do Nag Panchami Puja

According to the Hindu calendar, Most of the people from all over the country consider Shravan month as sacred. Because Naga Panchami or Naga Chaturthi is celebrated on this day as a traditional Hindu festival. On that day, people worship the snake god by doing special puja known as Naga Panchami puja. Here Vedicmatters explain about the rituals that people are experiencing in the day of Naga Panchami. During that day, as usual people after bathing, women are wearing a nine-yard saree or Nauvari. In many of the places, devotees prepare idols of snake gods to worship. And they decorate that idol by using grass, vermilion, sandalwood paste, turmeric and flowers. To worship the god, mainly red hibiscus flowers are used. Yet, it is very essential to offer milk to the snake. At the beginning when the sound of the flute is produced, snakes accompany that sound. Worshipping snake god by offering milk, sweets or flowers and chanting the mantra "Naga preeta bhavanti shantimapnoti via viboh. Sashanti lokma sadhya modate shashttih samh. To please God, people observe fasting from sunrise till sunset on that day. The fast will end by offering kheer to God. On that day, it is necessary to avoid fried and salty foods. Hindu custom believes that ploughing and digging may cause harm. To protect snakes, both ploughing and digging are restricted on that day. As part of the tradition, they are offering sweets to the snake god and distributed as prasad to devotees. The serpent god is regarded as the ornament of Lord Shiva. To please Lord Shiva and to get blessings, devotees are worshipping the snake god on this day. There are some other things that people want to avoid on that day. Hindu belief is that cooking in an iron vessel on that day is not good. Then devotees need to stay away from needlework. Using new crop is also prohibited on that day
