Making of Vibhuti
Vibhuti is famous among Hindus especially in the devotees of Lord Shiva. Devotees of Lord Shiva know to use Vibhuti but most of the people do not know the making of vibhuti. Here Vedic matters are describing the production of vibhuti. Vibhuti is mainly used by the devotees of Lord Shiva, especially during the annual Mahashivaratri festival. Vibhuti was processed at the place called Gosalas. The main ingredient to prepare vibhuti is dried cow dung. Based on Vedic rituals, Vibhuti is prepared by using cow dung and dried it. Another major ingredient for the preparation of vibhuti is Karukkai, the ripened grain of paddy. As the traditional ritual, after the cake is prepared, many of the people will chant Vedic prayers to honour Lord Shiva. Gosalas will have to be clean and decorate it with Kolam on the morning of Shivaratri days. After that people want to prepare Sivarathiri Muttan. Karukkai and dried cow dung cakes are using to make a shiva lingam form and this form is called Sivarathiri Muttan. Karukkai is spreading on the ground and the day of Shivaratri day, after Viraja Homam is completed, fire is placed on muttan and started to burns out. Some small pieces are retained and fire spread on the layer and muttan pulled to pieces and cakes turned to white on colour.
